A Luxury Forest Retreat

History

The barn took over 2 1/2 years to convert from an open fronted 'Pig Barn' to the stunning accommodation you now see.

Over £8,000.00 of concrete was required to underpin the barn below the existing brick footings that were only 18" deep. The barn was completely stipped of all it's weatherboarding, new brickwork was constructed to the front and the existing timber was treated for rot and insects, new timbers were cut in where required and then the entire structure was clad with 22mm exterior quality ply, this was then covered with a 'Tyvec' membrane and then clad with pressure treated softwood which was then given 3 coats of Sikkens black timber treatment. Internally, 100mm of insulation was inserted between the timbers and then cross battened and an additional 50mm of insulation fitted. This was then covered with 12mm plasterboard and skimmed with plaster.

All the internal and external doors were hand made, in Oak, in Poland and fitted by a local craftsman. The flooring is 150mm of concrete over insulation and the entire building was tanked to ensure no damp could get through.

The electrical and plumbing installations were carried out to ensure everything was hidden within the structure and is of the highest standard incorporating glass fronted electrical heating panels, instant electric water heating and the very best shower unit. All the electrical switches and plugs are 'Black Nickel'

The kitchen is solid wood and hand made in the north east of England and fitted and hand painted by a friend of ours. The worktops and Breakfast bar and made from Oak and finished with 'Tung' oil. The sink is a beautiful off white ceramic unit.

The curtains were hand made by two local ladies and are of a very heavy weight fabric and interlined.

The mattress was found by us when we stayed at a lodge in Scotland. It was made by a a company in Liverpool and is 'So Comfortable'.

The barn has 2 great music systems, a DVD, Kenwood CD, Tiac Amp, iPod (with over 1500 songs) 3 Flat screen TV's and Sky Satellite TV (which also runs through the amp). The kitchen is fitted out to the very highest standard with 'Henkels' knives, Jamie Oliver Pans and the highest quality crockery and cutlery. Being a complete 'Foodie', nothing is left off the list of equipment. The Kettle and Toaster are 'Dualit' and there is a stunning 'Kitchenaid' Coffee machine, Italian design (spaceship) extract fan/light, ceramic hob and built in cooker.

The wood burner is fantastic for those cold winter evenings and with the fabulous dimmerble ceiling up-lighting and side/table lamps makes a wonderful relaxing and romantic ambiance. Chill out on the comfortable sofa and 'snuggle seat'.

All bedding, towels and robes are from the best suppliers. There is sleeping for 2 extra people on the sofa-bed and there are extra duvets and blankets available, just in case you need to be even warmer.

Priors Barn is designed, built and equipped to the very highest standards, just the way we would hope to find a luxury holiday home. Nothing has been forgotten. No expense has been spared. We think it's pretty much perfect.
